Sewing News February 05 2026

It seems I've come back to the sewing table. Pretty much nothing doing in 2025. But towards the end of the year, I took out the Liberty silk I'd bought ten months earlier. Et voila. This gorgeous little silk blouse below, although the sleeves.....

Then I made a pair of the Bisque Trousers for the Abu Dhabi.  And in the new year, two new projects.  Kudos to me.  Have just finished the Melilot Blouse by Deer & Doe and another Ultimate Shirt (both shamefully still waiting for buttons) and now staring at some gorgeous lyocell twill from Blackbird Fabrics and thinking the Georgia Trousers.

I used to post on Instagram at rosemary sewing, generally my nom de plume in the seamstress universe, but haven't used it for a year now. It's fun to finish a new piece though and put it on and take a flattering snap.

The Ultimate Shirt from Sew Over It.  Have made a million times.  Silk. Nothing like it. Nada. Niente.

Still think I'm pretty sure I put the sleeves on backwards.   I am a serious spatial klutz. Click here for more pattern details...... (but not yet)

Some favourite pieces from yesteryear. The Camberset Dress from Merchant and Mills times two.  The Summer Coat from Nani Iro in that dreamy twill.  Hard to work with though.  Yikes. But so pretty and tough as nails.

The AllState Shirt (M&M) on my handsome husband.  I made several of these..... he was fussy about buttons.

This is such a smart little coat, from Merchant and Mills of course. So stylish.  From the Workbook.  As is the skirt of many colours.  Here is Jenna from Seamwork.

The Bisque Trousers fbelow rom Vivian Shao Chen.  These in linen from Blackbird as is the big Jenna shirt.

Picked up the striped top at South Rock Resale White Rock and if you're ever in the area it's the best consignment shop ever.  Believe me.  I shop a lot.

The blouse with the challis skirt is from Schao Chen as well.  The sleeves are adorable. Many compliments.

And finally the Banboo Straight Cut Coat. From Waffle Pagterns in Japan.  LINED! More later.

The Sewing News - Feb 16

Embarking right this moment on an exciting new piece.  A lovely 2 yds of cotton modal in 'Ocean' and thread is Gutermann 928 'hyacinth' .  I'm making The Strides from Merchant and Mills.  Have done so once before, sticking with same pattern although might have to cut down - size 10 and probably grading to 8 at the hips.
